The RICHARD MYERS FOUNDATION, INC (“RMF”) is a non-profit 503(c) organization established in 2019 to further the philanthropy work of Mr. Richard Myers. He was an activist in the Lockport/Fairmont community for 50 years. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after 42 years of service, where he served as the Machinist union steward for 19 years. He served as the elected President, Vice President, and Board member of the Fairmont School Board, District 89, for 20 years. He worked diligently to support many young adults in the neighborhood living in single-parent homes, needing additional support to navigate around crime, drugs, and unforeseen activities that could distract them from getting a solid education.
Annually, Mr. Myers supported back-to-school supplies and clothing drives, co-hosted free haircuts, and provided after-school tutoring services for area students. He would often tell students, “There’s no shame in asking for help; speak up! We are the community responsible for your well-being.” Mr. Myers took it upon himself to address the needs of the community by being a servant of the community. While raising his three children through Fairmont Jr. High School District 89, he saw so many infractions and voids. His heart ached over the conditions the children were living in, and he decided to fight the fight and make a difference, one student at a time. Many of the events were funded with his finances, sometimes soliciting from friends, family, and local businesses.
In 2018, Mr. Myers succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer, and RMF was formed and incorporated by his daughter, Jacquelyn (Myers) Finch. The family is committed to the health and wellness of underprivileged, distressed, and impoverished communities.
